Kenyataan Media MAFREL

Adakah anda tahu tentang MAFREL? Penulis pernah melibatkan diri dengan NGO ini secara langsung. NGO ini memainkan peranan bagi memastikan proses pilihanraya Malaysia berjalan dengan telus dan adil.

Media Statement

On December 3, 2005 MAFREL issued a media statement to release its findings highlighting three main irregularities of the Pengkalan Pasir electoral rolls:


· 70.92% of the electorates were found to be without any house address;

· 4.26% of addresses registering six or more electors were found to be non-existent; and

· 20.44% of the electors in traceable addresses were unrecognized by the house owners or tenants of the addresses.


MAFREL statement also emphasized that the polling process of the Pengkalan Pasir by-election would be exposed to the problem of unrecognized voters and the possibility of impersonation. Subsequently MAFREL called upon polling agents of candidates and political parties to be more alert and cautious during polling to determine that only qualified and genuine electors were allowed to vote, and to avoid the voting process be seriously undermined by systematic presence of “phantom voters”.


The statement was carried by Malaysian alternative media such as Malaysiakini, Siasah and Harakahdaily. None of the mainstream media took notice.
